Inspired by the 1936 “Chochin Gyoretsu” Lantern Parade commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Kanrin Maru ship’s arrival to the San Francisco Bay, the Japanese Benevolent Society of California along with the San Francisco Japantown community have organized a lantern parade celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Kanrin Maru ship’s arrival to the San Francisco Bay.

Please join the Japantown community and the Summit participants as we celebrate the ending of the San Francisco Summit dancing “Yosakoi”, a traditional Japanese folk dance of the Kochi region, and the next 2011 Grassroots Summit host region in Japan. Lanterns will be carried in memory and gratitude to the pioneers who have brought us to this moment celebrating the friendship between the United States and Japan.

On Sunday, August 29th at 5:30pm on Post St.
